Healing

In 2009, I had suffered numerous physical injuries due to excessive weight lifting.  I was such a mess.  I was in so much pain.  My body felt as it were 100 years old, even though I was only 40 at the time.

Here is a list of the 5 injuries I had in 2008-2009:

  1. Excruciating tennis elbows. It hurt a lot just to brush my teeth.  (An orthopedic surgeon told me to go home because there was nothing he could do for me).
  2. Awful heel spurs.  Every step I took felt like I was stepping on a nail.
  3. Worn out and strained wrists
  4. Consistent lower back problems
  5. A knee injury that didn’t even heal correctly after surgery.

I recall saying to my spiritual mentor that I wish Jesus could walk by so I could touch the hem of His robe and be healed, just as many people experienced during Jesus’ ministry on earth.  My mentor replied, “That is still available to us today through our faith.”  I was baffled because nobody had ever told me that before.

God’s Word Matters

Why Does God’s Word Matter To Our Company?

God’s Will is His Word and His Word is His Will for our lives (Matthew 12: 50).  It is profoundly important to study and learn God Word (Joshua 1: 8).  We must be doers of the Word, and not just hearers (James 1: 22-25).  It is the instruction book for how we are to live our lives (Psalm 119: 105).  If we want our lives to be pleasing to God, we should mature in our relationship with Him by reading His Word (Hebrews 5: 11-14) and then doing as the Word instructs.

Each of us was created to have a particular ministry.  That ministry may be a ministry of preaching, teaching, giving, evangelism, healing, and others (1 Corinthians 12: 4-11).  God has given each of us specific gifts so we may perform that ministry well so we can do something to enhance God’s Kingdom (Romans 12: 6-8).

Forgiveness

Romans 12: 17-21 = Never pay back evil with more evil.  Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.  Do all that you can to live at peace with everyone.  Dear friends, never take revenge.  Leave that to the righteous anger of God.  For the Scriptures say, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” says the Lord.  Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them.  If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.  In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”  Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

By giving an enemy a drink, we’re not excusing his misdeeds.  We’re recognizing him, forgiving him, and loving him in spite of his sins, just as Christ did for us.

Matthew 18: 21-22 = Then Peter came to Him and asked, “Lord, How often should I forgive someone who sins against me?  Seven times?”  “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”

Finding Strength in our Struggles

1 Peter 4: 12-13 reads “Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.  Instead, be very glad – for these trials make you partners with Christ in His suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to the whole world.”

When things don’t go our way or we face some kind of adversity, we often get all bent out of shape rather than persevering.

When circumstances change and opposition comes, don’t be a complainer or a cry-baby.  Don’t have a pity party.  Instead, start thinking and believing in God’s favor and His blessings.  Have an attitude of faith and victory.  Say, “I just lost my job, but I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me next!”

Worrying

Worry can cause us to forfeit peace with God.  The way to bring peace to a troubled heart is to focus on God’s promises.  TRUST HIM to do what He says.  Jeremiah 17: 7-8 says, “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried about long months of drought.  Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.”

Don’t worry about details beyond your control.  Noah didn’t worry about gathering up the animals for the Ark.  God took care of the details of that job while Noah did what God commanded, which was building the boat.   Often we do just the opposite of Noah.  We worry about details that we have no control over while neglecting other areas that are under our control.  These areas may include:

  1. Attitudes
  2. Relationships
  3. Responsibilities

Like Noah, we need to concentrate on what God has given us to do and leave the rest up to God.  In many cases, that means focusing on improving ourselves and trusting God to work on the other person.
